Tour 2009: day 2

In my opinion the second day is the real start if any tour. The first day you start at home, late and rushed so you don’t properly enter into the touring mindset. It takes a few days to get away from familiar environs as well, making that first day more akin to a rec ride, albeit with ten times the load. On this the second day of my tour I awoke a little early, around 7am.…

Tour 2009: day 1

I Left home 12:30 in the afternoon, more or less on schedule. The loaded bicycle handling took a bit of getting used to as always but I was riding no hands by Mercer Island. A hot day with a prevailing wind from the sound added to these initial difficulties. Tour2009: Itinerary

This is my basic Itinerary for the tour. This will also serve as an index of sorts, as I’ll turn all these pages into links after the tour.  This basic route is from Kirkendall and Spring’s Bicycling The Pacific Coast, with my own route for the first couple of days and ending in San Francisco. From San Franciso I’m taking the Coast Starlight Amtrak home which I’m also looking forward to – I haven’t done…

Tour 2009: Packing List

This year I’m doing a three week tour along the West Coast of the United States.  Over the next couple of days I’m going to post some of the information from my tour document that I always produce. This document includes the basic itinerary, my packing list, routes and maps that I’ve worked out myself, address and directions for any important destinations such as booked hotels, transportation and brewpubs and so on.  I’ve found that…
