After riding through this valley (of which I took not photos, stupidly) I made to back to the sound. This section from the not pictured valley and then along the sound was maybe my favorite riding of the whole trip. Beautiful, comfortably with sun but lots of shade, low traffic and nice terrain. The road was pretty shoulderless and I'm sure it would be less fun with a lot of cars, but on this day it was fantastic.
